Night Fishing on Lake Fork
Lake Fork Night Fishing with Guide Clint Wright
Lake Fork offers wonderful fishing year around. Anglers come from all over the world for a chance to catch a bass of a lifetime. Many anglers ask me when the best time to catch a double-digit bass would be. My answer is the same every time. If you can make it out between the months of February and May, these four months have proven themselves over the years to provide ample opportunity as the female bass have packed on weight and are full of eggs. Many ten pound plus fish are caught during these months. But, I have fished Lake Fork for over 20 years and no other time has provided more double digit bass than the night fishing of Summer. Night fishing Lake Fork has really gained popularity in the last five years. I have noticed in the last few years that the boat ramps during the day, when air temps are above 90 degrees, are fairly empty. But, as the sun sets and the air temps cool, the boat ramps are once again filling as many anglers are learning just how good this lake is after darkness sets in. Night fishing on Lake Fork is my favorite time to fish and here is why. The bait selection that I use is minimized to only a few, while during the day sometimes the options are endless. The baits I choose are a big plastic worm (Reaction Innovations Big unit), Revenge jig with a Reaction Innovations sweet beaver trailer and a Revenge spinnerbait with a Colorado blade. Colors are simple; throw dark ones like a black, blk./blue or blk./red. Things to bring along to make sure you have a fun trip. You will want to bring plenty of bug spray. The bugs are only bad if there is no wind and usually only hang around after the first hour of so of darkness. Also, bring along a flashlight for each angler. I like to fish main lake points, ledges and humps during the summer months at night. Look for shallow water grass, brush or timber close to deep water. Some great areas to fish are SRA point, Alligator cove, Little Boy and Bird Island. If you are planning a night fishing trip to Lake Fork and it is you are novice to night fishing, try to plan it so a buddy in another boat can come along. The buddy system is a good idea so someone will be there close if you need any assistance.
